What is the career option after MBBS?

Many of us believe that we have to go for clinical practices right after MBBS. But what we don’t know is that there are lots of option open for us to pursue after we get an MBBS degree.

Career options after MBBS in India:
  1. MD/MS/Diploma: After MBBS, most of the students go for MD, MS or Diploma course. The PG Diploma course is for two years and the Post Graduate medical degree is for three years. After MBBS, a student gets lots of option to specialize in. It is mainly divided into- Clinical, Non-Clinical, and Para clinical.

Combined Medical Services (CMS):

After completing MBBS, a student can also sit for Medical Services Examination every year. It can allow them to get a job in government institutions like Railways, Municipal Corporations as Medical Officers. The students can give the exam after completing the final year. Masters in Health Administration (MHA):

A student can also pursue a 3-years master’s degree in MHA. This degree allows you to manage specialty hospitals, clinics etc.

Masters in Medical Science and Technology (MMST):

This is also an option you can opt for after you complete your MBBS. It is offered by IIT’s which works for Bioinformatics, medical biotechnology, healthcare imaging, etc.

But this is not all. If you don’t want to study anymore and work, you can find opportunities for that too.

  • An MBBS graduate can start his or her career as a medical writer. The student can work in academics, the medical industry, and news organization. You can write medical contents, news articles, health-awareness opinions, etc.
  • After MBBS, you can also choose a career as a clinical forensic medical examiner.
  • If you are in the medical field, you can also go for a medico-legal career. Here one can work with the legal medical cases as a medico-legal advisor.
  • Academic medicine is another career after MBBS where the doctors provide their knowledge teaching medical students.
  • After MBBS, you can also work as a sports doctor which is one of the precious profile that can give you high profile clients and large pays.
  • Nowadays, A large number of clinical doctors are heading to business schools to study healthcare consulting, hoping to turn entrepreneurs.

USMLE (The United States Medical Licensing Exam):

After finishing your final years in MBBS, you can opt for USMLE for studying in the US. The entrance exam has 3-steps.
