A million dreams to become a doctor or work for a healthcare service. Some want to research, others want to serve the patients. The world needs more doctors because most of us prefer our health over anything. For a small injury to serious sickness, we need doctors all the time. It may sound overwhelming but as a doctor, you save not one or two but several lives and bring happiness to their families. The satisfaction of saving someone’s life is beyond any feeling in this world. The foremost reason is to become a doctor is to call yourself a “doctor”. Pursuing medical study needs unshakable dedication and deep self-motivation. It is one of the most difficult journeys for every medical aspirant around the world. So, one should always feel proud of him or herself for being a “doctor”.

If you are planning to become a doctor, the path is never easy. There are lots of option but one has to put in extremely hard work to reach the goal.

After your board exam (class 12 final), you have to pursue MBBS. It is the basic degree for anyone who wants to join the medical field. It is a five and half year course which includes an internship as well. But to get admission to any medical college, aspirants have to give an entrance exam which is called NEET. This exam is conducted by the Central Board Of Secondary Education. Your ranking decides which college will be preferable for you. You can get into government and as well as private colleges through NEET.

After one completes MBBS and get a graduation certificate, they can easily join clinical practices. But if you wish to specialize in any specific subject and get a masters degree, there are other option too. A student can pursue MD/ MS/Diploma to continue the medical career. There are various entrance exams for that like NEET entrance exam, PGIMER, JIPMER PG, and AIIMS PG. MD or MS will be a three years course. Also, an MBBS graduate can take up a Masters degree in any of the following fields:

  • Aerospace Medicine
  • Anatomy
  • Anaesthesia
  • Biochemistry
  • Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy
  • Forensic Medicine

There are lots of other courses too which you can go for after MBBS. A student will have various options even when he or she wants to pursue masters from abroad. But you have to sit for different types of entrance exams.

There are lots of coaching classes and online platforms to get prepared for NEET or any PG entrance exams. The online e-learning platforms for PG preparation are Marrow, Prepladder, MedWhiz, etc. A student can enroll on their course here and enjoy a hassle-free study environment.

However, the path to becoming a doctor is hard but it is satisfying when you bring smiles to faces when a person gives you the blessing for curing them.
